The score utilizes some 80's synth in a very minor way. You can hear it in "Roxanne" (Love Theme) and "Crab Nuggets". It works very well. The motifs are very strong and present throughout the duration of the score and really carry it. Don't expect the music to blow you out of the water though. It's a fun well executed animation score.
Megamind is a fun and harmless score executed perfectly while hitting all the right beats of what the film has to offer. It has a romantic comedy side to it that really appealed to me. The themes are "waltzy" and sweet and really snare you. The score has an identity and that's what matters. While it may not sweep you off your feet the way How To Train Your Dragon did earlier this year it definitely has enough character and charm to hold you through.
